Newport Choirs closes their first year under the direction of Mr. Ledón with great success!
Both choirs performed in their final concert of the year Road Trip Through America - Pop Show last Thursday at 7 PM. The concert included a variety of new elements integrated into the performance such as the inclusion of choreography for the singers, a full live band (including bass guitar, guitar, and drums), soloists, new lighting effects and food trucks in the parking lot. The concert ran for about fifty-minutes and had a delayed start due to last minute ticket sales at the box office.
The concert opened with an upbeat version of Neil Diamond's America preceded by some attractive and dramatic lighting effects that got the audience pumped up for the show. Students continued the concert performing a variety of songs ranging from old hits to new ones with the same recurring theme throughout the concert. The choirs started us off with songs about New York and made their way across the country until arriving at the California scene.
The concert closed with a rendition of God Bless America sung by all the members of both the Ladies and Vocal Ensemble. With their biggest audience yet, Mr. Ledón then took the stage to announce plans for next year's program such as the addition of two additional choirs and a choir tour to New York City! Seniors Keishaun Burroughs and Delaney McCullough then stole the mic to surprise both Mr. Weed (accompanist) and Mr. Ledón with flowers and a thank you message.
