Every year hundreds of high school choirs participate in Southern California Vocal Association (SCVA) festivals to get adjudicated and ranked in their performance.
Southern California Vocal Association (SCVA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit professional organization for choral music educators in the Southern California area. The organization was established in 1939 by several prominent Los Angeles area choral conductors to support choral conductors and advance vocal music in Southern California.
The mission of SCVA is:
To define standards of effective vocal music education;
To promote projects and events which encourage and further choral music education for all students at all grade levels;
To support choral music educators through professional development and networking opportunities;
To support legislation at all levels of government which will improve vocal music education;
To communicate accomplishment of these objectives to the profession and public.
After being graded on a number of "subjects" such as intonation, blend, balance, tone, and more, each group receives a ranking. Superior being the highest, Excellent in the middle, and Good on the lower end. With each ranking choirs receive recorded comments and well as comment sheets that give advice on musical aspects that pertain to their performance
After an absence from participation in these festivals, both Vocal Ensemble and Ladies Ensemble, under the direction of Mr. Jeffrey Ledón, came back to give a Superior worthy performance! This is a huge plus as our choral program continues to grow and improve!
