The combined choir concert between Newport Harbor and Ensign Intermediate turned out to be a positive success on students, families, and the community!
This year both Mr. Ledón and Mrs. Grenier teamed up to present a joint choir concert showcasing quality choral repertoire from several different genres. Ladies Ensemble, Newport Harbors all women's vocal group, started the show with an a cappella arrangement of "Bring Me Little Water, Sylvie" followed by Daniel Elder's sweeping melodies from his piece "Lullaby." The ladies finished strong with a #throwback to Jester Hairston's "Elijah Rock."
Ensign's Seabee choir took over the stage with the musical hit "Good Morning" from Singing in the Rain following by the "American Folk Rhapsody." The group finished with the musical classic "Seasons of Love" from Rent featuring some talented soloists!
Following Ensign, Newport Harbor's Vocal Ensemble took the stage to present "Dies Irae" and the challenging "Earth Song" by Frank Ticheli. The group finished their set with the nonsense song "Miniyama Nayo" by John Paul Rudoi.
To close the concert all choirs members took to the stage to form one large combined choir and sang "Rain, Rain, Beautiful Rain."
Having all the students on one stage from both Newport Zone schools gave the community a powerful message about musical growth, integrity, commitment, and talent that both Mrs. Grenier and Mr. Ledón are bringing to our students.
